| BLU-U® Photodynamic Therapy provides
effective treatment for acne by emitting non-invasive
and pain-free blue light that kills the bacteria responsible
for acne formation in the skin. When combined with LevulanTM,
BLU-U® can treat more severe acne, rosacea and acne
scars, in addition to minimizing pores, reducing fine
lines, and removing pigmented lesions.
BLU-U® is also excellent for removing sun damaged,
pre-cancerous areas known as Actininc Keratoses.
Who is it best for?
BLU-U® is best for anyone who has acne, as well
as patients who want to minimize the appearance of pores
and acne scars, and improve skin texture. It is ideal
for patients who have Actinic Keratoses over larger
areas. In many cases, patients with extended benefits
can receive full or partial reimbursement for BLU-U®
/ LevulanTM treatment. Treatment is not recommended
to patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How long is each treatment session?
Each treatment usually lasts approximately 16 minutes,
or as advised by the physician.
How does it feel?
Patients usually have a stinging and mild burning sensation.
When LevulanTM is used, minor discomfort may result
due to the nature of the LevulanTM topical solution.
The discomfort generally improves immediately after
the treatment and disappears in 1 day.
What are some after effects?
Patients usually experience temporary redness, or sometimes
minimal swelling, of acne, Actinic Keratoses, and surrounding
areas. Swelling and redness usually disappears after
1-2 days.
After LevulanTM treatment, patients must avoid all sunlight
exposure for 24 hours.
How many treatment sessions are required?
When BLU-U® is used alone, for acne, the treatment series
is usually twice a week for a month, followed by maintenance
treatment once a week for a further month.
When combined with LevulanTM, for acne, treatment is
every 3-4 weeks for a total of 2 to 4 treatments, depending
on patient response.
