us to offer you several possible treatment options to
get the best results. We are pleased to be one of the
few clinics in the area to introduce BLU-U® for Blue
Light Photodynamic Therapy. BLU-U® is a new treatment
option for acne which can be used by itself or in combination
with LevulanTM for enhanced effect. Blue light
is not a laser; instead it emits non-invasive, pain-free,
and cool visible blue light especially for treating mild
to moderate inflammatory acne. In combination with LevulanTM,
the BLU-U® is effective for moderate to severe acne
without having to take any oral medication. The narrow-band
blue light acts by killing P. acnes, the bacteria primarily
responsible for acne formation. BLU-U® is very safe
because the blue light only affects the P. acne bacteria,
but not the normal tissue.
LevulanTM
(a topical medicated lotion) can be applied to the skin
first to make it more responsive to the Blue Light treatment.
As well as being effective for moderate to severe acne,
the combined positive effect of LevulanTM and
BLU-U® can effectively minimize pores, reduce oil
glands, remove sun damaged pre-cancerous areas (Actinic
Keratoses), lessen fine lines and blotchy pigmentation,
and improve rosacea, and acne scars. BLU-U® treatments
are suitable for all skin types. They can be used as a
primary treatment or be combined with other skin care
therapies such as oral or topical medications.
BLU-U®
is an easy and quick treatment for patients. Patients
simply sit with their face close to the light for a short
time, usually around 16 minutes, or as advised by the
physician. This state-of-the-art technology, when used
with LevulanTM, requires minimal downtime so
patients can resume their daily activities very shortly
after a treatment session.
